Locals love art

Acclaimed Brazilian artist Romero Britto once said “Art is too important not to share.”

That’s certainly true around this neighbourhood. If you peek in to any home on the peninsula, art is proudly featured on the walls and local studios are filled with the young and old learning the powerful skills of art.

Here to make a SPLASH

The daughter of an industrial chemist for a fine art supplier, Lara grew up in Balmain surrounded by tubes of vibrant colour. With a constant supply of paint, Lara's artist mother would encourage her to use it. And to use it in abundance! This liberal use of paint inspired Lara to become an action painter where paint is deliberately poured or smeared on a canvas.

Helping those doing it tough

They say adversity brings people together, and local initiative 20 for 1 is testament it does.

Covid forced many businesses to change overnight. Marco de Angelis, owner of Our Place on Darling, was quick to adapt and received overwhelming support. “People in the area were very generous” says Marco.
