Does my child need a hearing test?

If you’ve ever been concerned about your child’s hearing, you’re not alone. Particularly during winter, hearing loss is not an uncommon side effect in children following an upper respiratory tract infection or ear infection.

“Having a hearing check is usually a fun, positive and painless experience for young children,” says Dr Annemarie Lindner AuD.

Ear infections can cause a temporary hearing loss and affects an estimated 80% of children before the age of four. Most infections get better quickly and are notusually serious, however, an undetected mild hearing loss in children can cause problems with speech, language, learning, and social skills.

Hearing loss or simply not paying attention?
Dr Annemarie Lindner AuD says “It isn’t always easy to decipher between whether a child is having trouble hearing or whether it is more about attention.” A short 30-minute appointment will tell you immediately whether a hearing loss is present or not.
